Mike English

Mike English is passionate about education and community partnerships. He originally hails from Pennsylvania and got his start managing the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting civic and community engagement for young professionals. He moved to Kansas City in 2006.

In Kansas City, he initially worked at the Kauffman Foundation. That became his introduction to education policy and school collaboration. While working at the Kauffman Foundation, the Great Recession triggered his interest in financial literacy and economic education for students in grades K–12.

Mike accepted a position as the President/CEO of the Missouri Council on Economic Education, which is based at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Through MCEE, English collaborated with teachers and students across the state. Working with Kansas City Public Schools inspired him to focus more intensely on education in the city.

Mike knew he wanted to improve educational opportunities, especially for kids in low-to-moderate income schools. He was able to combine his desire to serve Kansas City and advance literacy efforts when he was selected to lead Turn the Page KC following a national search. As the organization’s first Executive Director, Mike helped establish it as a 501C3 and led the creation and implementation of its strategic plan. This local nonprofit was launched by former Mayor Sly James in 2011 as a community initiative to raise the reading proficiency of third graders.

After serving for years as a successful CEO and Executive Director, Mike joined the team at The Moran Company while continuing to consult with Turn the Page KC. He understands the importance of recruiting the right leader to grow an organization’s mission, especially in its early stages. Mike’s position as Vice President for Search Strategies allows him to extend his skills to help other nonprofit organizations achieve greater impact.

Mike earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and his Master’s Degree in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago, focusing on public finance.
